Coronavirus – COVID-19 - Club Update

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

The health of all swimmers, their families, coaches, volunteers and all those involved in running the Club is important to us. The Committee would like to update you as follows:

Training - At this moment in time we have received no recommendation to cancel training and sessions will continue as planned. However, please be assured that we are monitoring this situation closely and will continue to follow advice and guidance from all relevant agencies over the coming days. Any changes to this position will be posted on our Facebook page to get information quickly out to all Club members followed up as soon as possible by e-mail communication.

As always, should any Club member feel unwell, they should not take part in training sessions and should seek and follow appropriate medical advice. Should a Club member become unwell following attendance at a training session, please advise the Club as soon as possible.

Mini Meet - 21-22 March 2020 - The Committee have been taking advice from Scottish Swimming and have been in discussion with facility providers. In light of escalating matters surrounding COVID-19, the Committee have taken the difficult decision to cancel our meet for 21st and 22nd March 2020. We are all disappointed but trust you will understand the reasons. Arrangements will be made for refunds to be issued to those who have already made payment for the Mini Meet. We will look to position another meet later in the year, subject to overall diary availability.

Other Galas/Competitions/Events - As soon as we become aware of any changes to forthcoming galas/competitions/events including next weekend's FVJL, we will let you all know.

Falkirk Otters Aiming for National Success

Wednesday, March 11, 2020

Since the start of the year the swimmers at Falkirk Otters Swim Club have been working hard and winning medals at local and regional competitions as they head towards the Scottish National Age Group Championships (SNAGS) in Aberdeen at the beginning of April. 3 weekends of long course (50m pool) at Tollcross in Glasgow netted an impressive 7 medals up against strong teams from across the West of Scotland. Medallists were Cameron Lynch, Lexine McCappin, Emma Silcock, Keziah McCappin, Zoe Crawford and Emily Fawkes.

Hard work in training and top performances in swim meets have yielded times that allow Cameron, Lexine, Zoe and Emily along with club team mates Evan Crawford, Alastair Finlay, Bradley Jack and Ben Montgomery to enter SNAGS. This doubles the number of individual entrants from the club based on 2019! At SNAGS they will compete as FIRST (Falkirk Integrated Swim Team - an amalgamation of Falkirk, Bo’ness and Grangemouth swim clubs). Many of them train regularly as part of the FIRST squad.

Meanwhile the club’s junior swimmers were competing in Stirling at the Alloa Meet. The team placed 4th at that meet mainly due to stand out performances by Zachary Dormer, Orla Campbell and Arjun Burrow. They then followed this up with a top performance at Cumbernauld this past weekend. They will be hoping for more of the same at The Falkirk Otters Meet at Grangemouth Sports Complex on the 21st and 22nd of March.
